Do Something! (A CM'10 Challenge)

CM'10 is over, you're home and back to work, and it's all too easy to forget about the great ideas and connections you had in Denver and all the moments where you said, "Yes! I'm definitely going to make that happen back home!"

We have a theory that there's a real window of opportunity after events like CM'10. If people do something in the first few weeks after a conference or event, chances are other actions will follow.

And even better, plenty of research into behavior and psychology shows that if you actually commit to doing something - publicly, in front of your friends and peers - you're that much more likely to do it. (If you want to know more, check out Nudge on the CM'10 booklist or the website stickk.com)

So we're posing a challenge: tell us today what you're going to do as a result of your experience at CM'10. It could be something tiny, like visiting a website that you heard about or buying a book. It could be huge, like starting a Heart & Soul Community Planning process or replicating one of the Strong Communities' finalists projects in your town. Whatever it is, the important thing is just that you do something, do it today, and let us know. Post a comment here on the blog to tell us all what you're going to do, email it to info@communitymatters.org, Tweet it with the #cm10conf tag, or respond to the question on Facebook.

Now get out there! Sign up for Twitter. Read Chip Heath's Switch and figure out how to make change happen. Plant a tree. Go to a City Council meeting. Email one of our speakers to ask a lingering question. Write a blog post. Make a wordle. Start a farmers market. Vote on Nov. 2. Do all kinds of crazy things we haven't even thought of... we can't wait to hear what they are and we'll share some good ones with you next week.
